I am a ceramic and multi-disciplinary artist born and raised in the heart of Whanganui, Aotearoa. I began my art study and practice in 2018 at Whanganui UCOL where I learnt to blow and cast glass, and as a part of this process also learnt to sculpt with clay. My degree culminated in 2020 with an internship at New Zealand Glassworks - Te Whare Tuhua O Te Ao.
In 2021, I transitioned from glass to clay, completing a Postgraduate Diploma that explored vessel-making within the philosophical frameworks of Zen, Wabi-sabi, and human mortality. This practice placed the art object itself as a vessel for carrying messages of deep presence, through facilitating ritualistic experiences - with elements of the Japanese Tea Ceremony being another vessel in which to share explorations of the human experience with others.
Zen, shared ritual, and vessel-making provided me a container to explore and express profound themes of wholeness through impermanence, and beauty within imperfection.
Larger in scale, these pieces evoke a sense of metaphysical wholeness, symbolizing the interconnectedness of life. Often carrying words of love, they serve as spaces for reflection and contemplation.
Designed to celebrate the tactile and comforting beauty of touch, these vessels invite mindfulness and presence into everyday rituals. Each bowl represents a moment of stillness and intentionality.
Every piece bridges the gap between functional ware and art object, harmonizing utility with aesthetic beauty. These ceramics are designed to enrich daily life while facilitating a deeper connection to the present moment.
I returned home with my first kiln in 2022, and established my home studio in Whanganui East, where I continue to pursue my dream of becoming a full-time ceramicist. My studio is both a sanctuary and a workshop. Art making is where I find connection, and where I find myself able to tell stories, experimenting with form and narrative, and hand-crafting individual pieces that reflect the love I want to put out into the world.
